When the weight of the past won’t let go.
The intrusive thoughts won’t stop. They show up uninvited and leave you exhausted before the day even starts.
Sleep feels impossible. You fall asleep, but nightmares keep occurring. You can’t remember the last time you felt rested.
You don’t recognize yourself anymore. The panic, the heaviness, the short fuse. It’s not who you are, and you want your old self back.
At Dara Counselling in St. John’s, we help you process what happened so you can breathe, heal, and reconnect with the version of yourself you love.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are your fees?
Individual and couples therapy is between $150 to $160 per session. Group therapy is $75 per session.
All sessions are 50-60 minutes, and payment is due at the end of each appointment. We know fees can feel like a barrier, and we want to make this as easy as possible. If you have questions about cost, coverage, or what a session includes, please reach out. We’re always happy to chat it through with you.
Are you covered by insurance?
Yes, we are. Many extended health plans in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario cover therapy with a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist. We recommend checking with your provider for details. Receipts are provided after each session, and we offer direct billing with most insurance companies.
What is your cancellation policy?
To help us provide the best care for everyone in our community, we kindly ask for 24 hours notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. For emergencies and illness, there’s no cancellation fee. You can call, text, email, or cancel through the Jane portal.
Cancellations made with less than 12 hours notice, as well as missed appointments, are subject to a $50 fee. This allows us to honour the time reserved for you and continue offering consistent, high-quality care to all our clients.
If something unexpected or urgent comes up, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We aim to approach these situations with understanding and compassion whenever possible.
Do you work with children, teens, adults, couples, or families?
At our St. John’s therapy practice, we offer trauma-informed therapy for adults, teens, families, and couples, with support for anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, suicidal thoughts, stress, grief, loss, and emotional overwhelm.
Our work integrates evidence-based approaches like EMDR, IFS, CBT, DBT, DBR (Deep Brain Reorienting), Narrative Therapy, the Safe and Sound Protocol, and Polyvagal Theory.
How long does therapy usually last?
Honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. Some people come for a handful of sessions around a specific issue and feel ready to move on. Others stay with us longer, doing deeper trauma work, grief work, or simply giving themselves the space to grow.
We’ll check in with you regularly, review how things are going in relation to your goals, and adjust together. You’re always in the driver’s seat. Therapy ends when it feels right for you, not before, and not a minute longer than it needs to.
